A great survival/building/exploring game, with a lot of nice quality of life implementations that let you focus more on the 'core' parts of what make the game great rather than having to constantly micromanage inventory space or move items between chests manually. Very fun game, much better than Minecraft which is very easily ruined by friends that behave like little children. Anyways, this game has very good meta progression through the bosses. Core Keeper is a great game, solid 8/10, but not an *amazing* one. It's easy to find flaws here because there's so few of them, but ultimately the gameplay itself is definitely worth the price.As for the issues, it would have to be getting certain items, lacking a few specific QOL, and the bosses.Items aren't too big of an issue if you're multiclassing, since you'll always have something good, but I did mage and nothing but mage for most of the time, and ended the game with 2 terrible weapons. (I ended up upgrading them to effectively max, but still!) This could've been solved by me looking at the wiki, but since it was my first playthrough I wanted to do that as little as possible. I played with a friend, and we ended up grinding for like 8 hours to get one last piece of their armorset. Honestly it was pretty enjoyable, but the rates were kind of terrible. We by no means *needed* that piece of armor, and would have had higher rates in a biome accessible later in the game, but we wanted to be optimal. Ultimately I recommend using the wiki if you don't know what items you should have if you see the levels for other classes go up but not yours.As for the QOL? It's actually quite good in this game! There's proper sorting and autodeposit features, plus crafting from chests within like ~15 tiles or so. That's quite good! Buuuuut. I've played a LOT of modded Terraria, so I know how good it can get. Firstly, this game throws chests at you, to the point where if you don't always have at least double the amount you need I'd be surprised. Why go through this? Sure, it's better than storing stuff in a game like Minecraft, but why can't we just have one storage system to take care of all of it? There's already electricity stuff in this game!NPC housing is confusing. I *think* all you have to do is surround a bed with walls and a door to count, but I'm not sure. I just followed the basic Terraria qualifications plus a bed and it seemed to work, but there should be an easy way to figure it out.Boss progression is somewhat obfuscated. I get that The Core will tell you general hints, and that's great, but respawning bosses is strange and knowing that you're fighting the right one at the right time is confusing. We definitely skipped over a few and had to go back. ALSO, some of the bosses move around and you have to chase them down before fighting them. This wasn't too annoying, but a weird design decision nonetheless.But believe it or not that was still me talking about the QOL! I'm ready to complain about the bosses for real this time. To be honest, it seems like there are two types of bosses in this game, the great ones, and the meh ones.The great ones are super fun, but too easy, and the meh ones are, well, meh. Most were still too easy, but they were just... boring. Unfortunately, this also applies to the final boss. It's not bad at its 'core', but it lasts for way too long and isn't hard enough. And the fact that you can just instantly respawn with it only regaining a small amount of HP isn't doing it any favors. But there's honestly not very many meh bosses, they just stand out. That said, the great ones are still 'only' great. 8/10 bossfights for sure, but they could be so much more than that!If you're unfamiliar with the Terraria: Calamity: HotOG: Catalyst: Infernum set of mods, let me tell you, you should familiarize yourself. Wonderful content, so good, that I think they spoiled my utter enjoyment of this game. They're brutally difficult, and require lots of effort and prep to beat. I came to this game with that same effort, and I didn't need to. I would've liked the game more if I didn't get crazy rng and find a teleporter on like boss 4. We had to spend a while grinding for another one, but it made the game so much easier. I would've liked it more if I didn't max out farming because of how powerful it is. (Farming was super enjoyable, but DANG those buffs were OP.) I would've liked it more if I wasn't used to high difficulties.And with all of that said, I have to absolutely recommend this game. It's a great game, but I wish it was an amazing one. For you, it could be, but I bet you'll at least find it great. Pick it up and play alone or with a friend or 7, and it'll be a great time. You'll probably find my complaints to be nitpicking, and are probably right to think so. Anyways I've gotta boot up WuWa so have fun.
Amazing game, pretty close to terraria but missing weapon variety. Soundtrack is amazing and boss design is fun. The only thing missing is a large variety of weapons, with certain classes being substantially more viable than others just because of amount of weapons. Otherwise, amazing.
Base building is always a challenge and I make each base different trying to increase efficiency. The bosses area a challenge for me so i am working on them slowly while i collect more gear.
Fun game but make sure you don't mess around too much. This will make the game boring pretty quickly. Just make sure you do the main quests and finish the story. I do recommend it and it's definitely way more fun with friends.Overall I would rate it a 7/10.

I would say try find it on sale as 15.99 seems a little steep but overall very good game.

Alright, I'm going to try to keep this as short and as simple as possible.This games great. If your into other sandbox/adventure games like Terraria and Minecraft, this games for you. Its still similar enough to those games while also being fresh and unique in its own way. It is very clearly based off its predecessors and has learned from their failures and triumphs, and has found a way to blend the two games together.There are tons of different weapons and items that you can use, and similar to Terraria, there's classes for each kind of weapon/armor, but its not too overwhelming and isn't what the game is focused entirely on, thankfully. What the game is mainly focused on though is exploration and mining. Even after my 66 hours of gameplay (as of writing this at least), all of the mining and adventuring hasn't gotten old. There's tons of different structures of varying loot, sizes, and difficulty, and there's plenty of biomes to explore with their own dedicated ore.I know I went on a little bit of a rant, but that's just goes to show how much I love this game. As a lifelong Minecraft and Terraria fan, I can proudly say Core Keeper deserves a spot in the pantheon of sandbox games.10/10, would mine again.Can't wait for KYORA, Pugstorm!
I'm torn because the game is worth the money, but the caveat being I recommend you drop it as soon as exploration starts becoming a slog because you'll have gotten your moneys worth, but the exploration doesn't get better at all. And in some biomes it gets worse. Or just skip any extra stuff and only focus on the bosses which is what I plan to do from now on since you can buy items that show you exactly where they are. If you enjoy the exploration then it's a great game all around, but it's not for me.The first section of the game is great, but after you beat the first 3 bosses exploration becomes a slog. The area you uncover on the map isn't even as big as what you actually see, which is also incredibly small, and every biome is massive so finding anything other than bosses is very difficult. As I saw someone describe it, "No one wants to choose between using a wiki or wasting hours wandering around a way too big biome trying to find a needle in a haystack." Except even in this case with wiki help and a map tool, I still wasted hours wandering around the biome.Travel in general is honestly frustrating because of this even when you get minecarts and other forms of moving around the map to places you've already explored because there is so much backtracking. Riding a the fastest minecart to the outer parts of the map takes almost 2 minutes, which doesn't sound like a lot but when you're going back and forth carrying resources it takes up a lot of time (which happens a lot because unless you're being extremely judicious in what you pick up your inventory fills up quick). Portals exist but the grind required to get even just one of them is genuinely prohibitive. And teleporting items exist but that only pulls you back to base.Really well made otherwise, and if the exploration doesn't bother you at all then it's just great all around. But seriously just maybe be mentally prepared for what to expect.
I played 8h over two sessions, solo, & it's basically top-down Terraria as far as I can tell. I can see how this would be decent in co-op & probably why it hit so big when there was a dearth of friendslop, but the gameplay loop is very exposed & I don't find any of the subsystems enjoyable on their own. Combat lacks the challenge to engage. Crafting is functional but utilitarian, not much to it. The map is procgen with biomes, so the promise of exploration is just seeing more procgen. At least that's all I saw in 8h. Standard stuff.I'd still recommend it as a relaxing friendslop game, but it's far too simplistic & shallow to bother with solo.Yet another game where I wish there was a "Conditional Yes" option.
