Cleaning up after a gruesome crime isn’t something most people would associate with fun, but Crime Scene Cleaner turns this macabre concept into an engaging and addictive simulation game. Whether you’re new to the world of simulation games or a seasoned player looking for a unique twist, this game promises an experience that blends dark humor, strategic thinking, and careful precision. In this detailed review, we will explore the key features, mechanics, and overall experience of Crime Scene Cleaner, while also highlighting its pros and cons to give you a well-rounded perspective.
Overview of Crime Scene Cleaner
Crime Scene Cleaner puts players in the role of a professional cleaner tasked with scrubbing away the aftermath of gruesome crimes. The job involves removing bloodstains, disposing of incriminating evidence, and ensuring that every location is spotless before authorities or bystanders can arrive. The game sets itself apart with a unique combination of puzzle-solving, time management, and environmental storytelling.
The setting of each level ranges from mundane suburban homes to chaotic crime scenes in diners, offices, and even laboratories. The environmental details immerse players in each scene, telling subtle stories about what might have happened while challenging them to restore order without leaving a trace.
Key Features and Mechanics
1. Level Design and Atmosphere
The level design in Crime Scene Cleaner is one of its strongest features. Each scene is meticulously crafted, providing players with both visual storytelling and logistical challenges. The variety of locations keeps the game fresh, with levels increasing in complexity as players progress.
Environmental Variety: Players will find themselves cleaning up messes in dimly lit basements, neon-lit nightclubs, abandoned factories, and remote cabins in the woods.
Interactive Objects: From blood-soaked carpets to shattered glass and suspicious weapons, every item must be dealt with properly to avoid penalties.
2. Cleaning Tools and Upgrades
At the core of the gameplay is an arsenal of cleaning tools that players unlock as they advance through the game.
Basic Tools: Players start with essential items such as mops, buckets, and trash bags.
Advanced Gadgets: As levels become more difficult, upgrades such as high-pressure hoses, forensic vacuums, and chemical sprays become available to handle stubborn messes.
Inventory Management: Keeping track of supplies is key, as running out of cleaning materials at critical moments can lead to failure.
The upgrade system also allows players to customize their cleaning loadout, adding a layer of strategy to the game.
3. Time Management Challenges
Each level in Crime Scene Cleaner is timed, and players must work efficiently to complete their tasks before the clock runs out. The pressure builds as more complex scenes require careful prioritization of tasks.
Quick Decisions: Should you mop the bloodstains first or dispose of the broken weapon?
Complications: Players must also deal with surprise interruptions, such as unexpected visitors or security patrols.
This mechanic adds a layer of suspense and forces players to stay on their toes.
4. Stealth Elements
Some levels introduce stealth gameplay, requiring players to avoid detection while they clean. Getting caught can result in penalties or mission failure.
Avoiding Detection: Players must hide from passersby, security cameras, and even pets that can alert others.
Noise Levels: Certain actions, such as dragging heavy objects, produce noise, forcing players to plan their moves carefully.
These stealth-based challenges add a thrilling element to the game, making each cleanup feel like a covert operation.
5. Dark Humor and Narrative
Crime Scene Cleaner balances its grim subject matter with a healthy dose of dark humor. The absurdity of cleaning up massive blood pools while whistling cheerful tunes creates a surreal and comedic atmosphere.
Narrative Clues: Each crime scene contains clues about what happened, which players can piece together for added immersion.
Humorous Interactions: The game includes quirky notes, hilarious mishaps, and unexpected Easter eggs that keep players entertained.
6. Scoring System and Leaderboards
At the end of each level, players receive a score based on their performance.
Efficiency Rating: Points are awarded for completing tasks quickly and thoroughly.
Cleanup Precision: Players who avoid leaving even the smallest trace behind earn higher ratings.
Leaderboards: Competitive players can aim for top spots on the global leaderboards, adding replayability.
Graphics and Sound Design
Visuals
The art style of Crime Scene Cleaner is detailed and slightly stylized, which helps balance the graphic nature of the content. Bloodstains and debris are rendered realistically, but the slight cartoonish touch keeps the tone lighthearted.
Lighting Effects: Dynamic lighting is used to enhance immersion, with dark corners and flickering lights adding tension.
Environmental Details: From cracked tiles to smeared fingerprints, the game’s visual storytelling is highly effective.
Audio Design
The sound design complements the gameplay with an eclectic soundtrack and immersive sound effects.
Ambient Sounds: Each location has unique ambient noises, such as distant sirens or creaking floorboards.
Comedic Touches: Whimsical sound effects, such as exaggerated mop swishes and cheerful background music, add humor.
Replayability and Difficulty
Crime Scene Cleaner offers high replay value due to its scoring system, hidden collectibles, and various difficulty modes.
Challenge Modes: Players can tackle additional challenges, such as “no tools” runs or timed speed-cleaning.
Unlockable Content: Completing levels with high scores unlocks bonus levels and cosmetic upgrades.
Hidden Secrets: Many levels contain hidden items and Easter eggs that encourage exploration.
The game also offers difficulty options, ranging from casual modes for relaxed play to hardcore modes for players seeking intense challenges.

For fans of quirky, darkly comedic games, this simulation is a hidden gem that brings unexpected charm to the grim task of crime scene cleanup.
TL:DR - Crime Scene Cleaner is a fantastic story-driven cleaning simulator that will keep you compelled and occupied for a good 10 hours or so. If you enjoyed the concept of Viscera Cleanup Detail, but got bored with the monotony, then you'll like this game.Everything about this game oozes with passion and love. There are countless details that betray how much fun the developers of this game had while making it. All the references, witty humor, and dry commentary takes a monotonous concept and turns it into a compelling story-driven experience. But the game is not for the faint of heart. Despite the humor, this game does not stray away from the fact that you are a man who's cleaning up murder scenes for criminals. You may be cleaning up a shootout between mobsters in one scene, but in another you may be cleaning up innocent bystanders caught in the crossfire. Not everyone deserved what they got, but in the end you cleaned them up all the same.If you want a good story, good gameplay, good graphics, and fun writing, get this game. 9/10
Relaxing cleaning game with a twist. The story isn't really good, and they leave the sick daughter part unresolved. I can see a sequel where there are more interesting things that can be done with the story.
Excellent game, I WANT MORE.More forgiving and easier than viscera. Pretty good story however some of the achievements are a bother to get if trying to 100%Skill tree is nice and rewarding, my personal favorite is the power washer -- that thing is broken for tough stains (just beware fragile things)there are only 10 maps but all have their own secrets and are rewarding to perfect. And if you get stuck on any map there is many steam forum or online assistance - I only looked up a couple things on the big maps if I couldn't find them because I didnt want to do the whole mission again. If this got DLC I would buy it and play more 10/10.
Please add more omg give a part 2 please, i love this game so much i cannot live without it.
i need another one PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I absolutely loved this game! It’s incredibly relaxing and perfect for listening to a podcast or music while cleaning. Although it’s a bit short (it took me less than 20 hours to complete), I highly recommend it 💖.
For suggestions to the developers for an update or a sequel, I’d recommend adding more levels, additional skill points, a shop to spend the money earned during missions, and perhaps a penalty system for destroying objects. These features would make the game even more engaging and enjoyable.
A greatly satisfying game with a lot varity.
The story and characters are compelling, even though that isnt its real selling point. If you like Powerwash Simulator, but want a more realistic and dark spin is this perfect for you.
Some of the achievements can be a hazzle, but isnt such a big problem, after you have completed the main story/game.
At this point has there been no updates, but there has been promises of a new map, which i am once again looking forward to.
A simple and relaxing game. It's basically a reversed coloring game, nothing challenging, the gameplay is simple and plot is straightforward. You can turn off your brain and mop some floors when you are tired, there's 10 maps in total and each map will take you 30 min~ 4 h. It's possible to get all achievements in one playthrough(I replayed a few maps to get all though).
This game is amazing! It's basically house flipper, which I play and love, just without renovation. Unlike house flipper though, we really get to see into the life of the main character which I adore. The story line is absolutely amazing, I'm so invested with what happens with the main character's personal life.
An absolute must if you love house flipper or really any simulation and story based games.
Absolutely loved playing this game. Reminds me of Viscera, but a different spin. Has secrets in each level, and collectables it encourages you to collect with achievements. Some puzzles but nothing too crazy. Very enjoyable, really hope they add some DLC for additional levels. Highly recommend!
This is one of the best cleaning games I have ever played, and I play a lot of them. The mechanics are great and the story is too. I have played this game far to much and will recommend it to anyone that loves games like this. I really hope this developer makes another game like this. I would buy it up so fast!
Fun little game. No regrets.+
It's relaxing, easy to play and you can go in to the nice cozy bubble for hours.
The theme might be grim, but game has humour - still had to admit that one level was a bit scary.
They say that there might be more content in the future?-
Some controls are little clumsy ("big jump") and I wasn't keen of the small puzzles some levels had.
There is not much to play yet, I took my time and finished in 20h. I don't see replay value in the levels I have done, but if you love to have achievements, there might be some.
I've been really enjoying this game. It is a dark humor type of game, especially if you pet the dog and pay attention to what the character says as he is cleaning. It is a mix of many games put together, for me the biggest downside is trying to get into levels: example, getting into the cabin for the party where jumping from the roof to the window is needed. I tried for hours but could not get it and had to rage quit. I will return to the game and try again since I love it, but just warning others who are not good with platformers this is a surprise part of the game.
Such a good game. The only mission that bugged me a bit was the museum one since i had one misplaced exhibit missing and i couldnt find it since i placed it somewhere else on the map. So it took me like a few hours just to find it. But overall i loved the designs of the missions, the story related stuff and i never got bored. The achievements were really fun to obtain and i loved all the small details, like for example that after you finished a mission you find items related to it in your house or that you can find so many cassettes and secrets. Def recommend playing :]
I beat this game in a quick 18 hours and I highly recommend playing it. There is a good story line that keeps you wanting to upgrade your equipment to get through the levels faster. It is very calming in a way of just being able to reset the scenes. Plus you can pet the dog, Dexter.
After this game I started cleaning my own house much more thoroughly and invested my money in the proper cleaning products. The smells are now gone. The neighbours became less suspicious and I now have a lot more secret hiding places thanks to this game. And, like in the game, I started mopping my bed with the sheets still on, including the paintings on my wall and it works like a charm. I swear I can see them shine right after as if completed to perfection.I also perfected my garbage bag tossing skills. Got myself a German shepherd named Rex and large crime organisations have been contacting me for job opportunities after having shown them how I've cleared these levels to perfection.Best cleaning/job simulator ever. 10/10
Game was fun until necessary items just disappear, requiring a stage reset. Cushions for instance, are very bugged, and if you're unlucky, it'll happen over and over. Incredibly infuriating when this happens, and it ruined the game for me.
Got into this game through my enjoyment of Viscera Cleanup Detail. I really like the plot/story in this game. Bonus points for there being a cute dog you are encouraged to pet! A great way to kill a couple hours during the holidays.
So, so good. The only game I have ever willingly 100% completed. The only complaint that I have is that it isn't at least 100,000 hours of story line so that I may relax and clean up while listening to podcasts for the next few decades.I have to find a new way to relax now.
Chapter 6
I can't pick up the key in the swimming pool. I already drained the water, but pressing E to take the key still doesn't work.
Please fix the bug.
